Feng Shui for You

What is feng shui? Most people have heard of it, but not every one knows what feng shui really is. It is talked about at parties. Everyone seems to know that feng shui is that Chinese thing or something about moving furniture around. I heard " Throw out your dead flowers, that is bad feng shui". It is true that you should not keep dead flowers in your house, but saying bad feng shui is not correct. Feng shui is just feng shui as a table is just a table. It is the chi or life force that doesn't like the dead flowers. Any thing dead that may disturb the chi in a negative way is not good.

Feng shui was first was practiced in China 1600 years or more ago. Furniture is often moved or removed when feng shui is practiced. Feng shui is much more than a way to arrange furniture. Feng shui is a way of living in harmony with nature. Feng shui is different for each person, just as each person is different from all other people. In a perfect world every person would live in the correct country for him, in the perfect house for her, with the entirety right furniture for all. We do not have that perfect world. So we need to adjust the imperfect, not to perfection, but to harmony.

The beginnings of feng shui were to find the best place to live. A place where the home was protected from cold winds and there was fresh water for the family. A place where people and nature would be comfortable with each other, a place where there was harmony. Feng shui is the art of finding a place where the needs of the people and the needs of the environment are balanced. The basis of feng shui is to find a place where the energy could flow freely with a positive force.

Feng shui comes to our aid to teach us how to overcome this less than perfect world. When we learn to live more in harmony with nature, then all aspects of life become more balanced. Health can become better. Money is more abundant. Relationships are much more pleasant. The universal life force is that which moves around all things and living beings. The energy can be positive, negative or benign. It is possible to influence the energy around us to become more positive and balanced to create a better life.

Protection, safety and comfort are not the only things that the practice feng shui seeks. Beauty is also a part of the total picture. Now, you know beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so you can choose what is beautiful to you. Your home and surroundings should be pleasant and restful to the eye.

Chi is the Universal Life Force

The beginnings of feng shui was to find a good place to build the house or to influence the universal life force, which is also call chi or qi, so that the most positive energy would flow in and around the home. Of course, we all don't have the luxury to build our own home. We usually can arrange the furniture in our home to be more attuned with the positive energy. The furniture should be comfortable and have no sharp corners for safety. The arrangement of the furniture should leave safe walking paths and not obstruct the path of chi or allow chi to leave the house too quickly.

For example if you have your front door and back door facing each other the chi will come in one and go out the other without flowing around the house. You should place something in the path to allow chi to turn and flow. A table with a crystal or a plant on it placed in the direct path will let the chi pause and flow, instead of going straight out. You can change the colors in some of the rooms or use more wood or metal to help balance harmony and influence the universal life force also. What we often cannot do is move walls or doors to help the energy to be positive. There are things that can be done for that door that is on the wrong wall or the window that has a bad view. Some of the things that can help in many cases are a living plant, a mirror, wind chimes or a crystal. Feng shui also has a very common sense outlook about getting rid of clutter. If you are not using it, get rid of it. Give it away or put it in the trash. Keep all rooms free of unneeded items. Clean out closets, attics, garages and basements. Let the universal life force flow in and out and all the corners of the house.

Crystals and Feng Shui

Quartz crystal is a very powerful energy activator. The energy of the quartz crystal can be amplified by a person's thoughts and feelings. Placing a crystal in the corner of a room will encourage the universal life force to flow through the room freely. If the energy does not flow freely in a room it can affect health, thoughts and abundance of wealth. This is also true in a business or home office.

I have seen cut lead crystal sold to re-direct the chi flow. While this will help it is not as good as using a natural crystal. Crystal clusters and crystal point are the best to use to re-direct chi.

Out side Your House

Your yard and garden also affect chi. The trees and flowers that you have around your house can influence chi. Feng shui doesn't stop at your property line, it continues around the world. One small thing can affect many people. When you pick up litter than someone else has thoughtlessly thrown out of a car window, you are changing the life force in that area. Because you picked up some trash and disposed of it properly, you have created a better path for chi. That small act will affect many people, animals and plants.
