You Need Only One Resolution

Almost everyone makes a New Year's resolution. Usually it is broken within a month. I would like everyone to make only one resolution this year. A resolution that you will have to think about every day and maybe some mental work will be involved. I want you to make a resolution that can change your life. This one resolution can allow you to see a different world around you. Make this resolution now and keep it forever.



Resolve to be a happy person.

Are You Happy?

Keep reading and think about it, unless you are already always a happy person, then you can stop reading now. If you aren't always a happy person, why aren't you happy? Ask yourself how often do you feel happy. Do you feel happy sometime everyday? Once a week? Occasionally? Never? Would you feel happier if you had a good love relationship? More money? If you were thinner? Had more friends? Better health? A bigger house? A new car? What would make you happy?


A State of Mind

Happiness is a state of mind. No one else can make you truly happy. No amount of money can make you truly happy. Happiness is a state of mind. Only you can decide what your state of mind will be. People and things may add pleasure to your life, but they cannot make you happy. Only you can make you happy.

Often what is not allowing you to choose happiness is anger or fear. Why are you angry? What do you fear? Usually you will find what make you angry and fearful is something you can't control. You can control how you react.


Anger

An example of anger could be your feeling toward a family member. You are irritated with her because she always gets all the attention from the other members of the family. She receives the better presents and gets to go on paid vacations. You feel you deserve the presents and vacations more than she. So you are angry with her. What does you anger get you? It gets you more anger. You don't have to be angry. There are other choices. You can choose to be happy that she has the attention or you can speak to her and confess that you are jealous. She may tell you a reason that you don't know about of why she is the recipient of special treatment. Either way your anger doesn't do you any good. You must change the state of your mind about being angry. If you can't be happy for her then just stop being angry. You may find a rewarding relationship with her. When you stop being angry then there is room to become happy.


Fear

An example of fear may be the fear that you don't have enough money. First of all enough money for what? If there isn't enough money to pay your bills then you must make a budget and decide where you can cut your spending or how you can make more money. There is nothing to be afraid of in this case. What you need is planning. Are you spending money on things you don't need? Are you living beyond your income? Fear will not solve the problem. Fear only makes you more fearful. Make a plan and let go of fear.

Your Choice

Having a wonderful partner will give you pleasure, but it won't make you happy. Happiness must come from you.
More money can get you more things, but will things make you happy?
Being thinner won't make you happy, but it could make you healthier. If you need to loose weight start a program of healthier eating and exercise. Be happy that you are eating healthy and enjoy walking even a short distance. Allow yourself to be happy that you are doing something good for yourself.
Are you lonely? Do you smile? Are you friendly to people? There must be one thought or picture that will make you smile. Write the thought down and put it where you will see it often. Make several copies of the picture and smile every time you see it. Decide to feel happy when you see the thought or picture. Happiness attracts people.
Today you are as healthy as you can be. Be happy that you are as healthy as you can be. You can accept that this is as healthy as you can be or you can improve your health. Either way you can certainly be happy with your health.
Look around your home. If you live in one room or a mansion be happy that you have a place to live. Being happy doesn't mean that you aren't going to work to improve your situation. You can be very happy striving to develop a better life for yourself. Don't wait to be happy. Be happy now. Think about it.
