Winter Holidays
It seems like we just finished Thanksgiving dinner and it is December. Weather-wise December can be a cold and gloomy month. Despite the weather it is one of the most joyous months of the year. Winter solstice, the shortest and sometimes called the darkest day, falls in December. Also some of the most joyous days are in this month. The celebrations of Yule, Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa are happy holidays. New Year's Eve is an end and a beginning. Out with the old, in with the new. New hopes, new dreams, new ideas are all a part of the month of December. The house is decorated with holly, pine and ivy to remind us that even at the darkest time there is eternal hope. The smells of pine and baking cookies mingle in many homes.

Celebrate
We give gifts, have parties and often eat a bit too much. There always seems to be music in the background. We smile at strangers and wish them "Happy Holiday". We celebrate the joy of being alive in this cold and gloomy month. We push aside the darkness with our laughter and music. We dance in the New Year and sing songs.
A Joyous Holiday
Many people feel overwhelmed with shopping and chores. Many are disappointed that they don't have enough money to give better gifts. Others are disappointed that they didn't receive better gifts. These people allow themselves to become as gloomy as the weather. They forget that love and joy are the best gifts in the world. A gift that costs very little can bring joy and show love. That is what we should aim to do this year. Give joy and love to everyone. You can give joy and love with a smile, a visit or a kind word. The most important gift is the one you give yourself. Give yourself joy and love. Promise that this year joy will be you priority in the month of December and hopefully all year.
I wish you joy, love and a very happy holiday.
