July 4th
July is named for Julius Caesar, or some say he named it himself. One of my favorite holidays is in July. Independence Day, July 4th. Backyard barbeques, parades and flag waving are some of the ways to celebrate. I think everyone should think about what this day really means. Think back to that hot day in Philadelphia in 1776. Think about the men, Jefferson, Franklin, Adams and the others, in a stuffy room. Those men had a dream that they made into reality. The dream to be a free nation with free men and women to pursue happiness. They didn't get everything they wanted on July 4, 1776, but it was a grand start. Each of us should do what we can to make sure that dream stays alive. When you see the red, white and blue flag of the United States of America, think about how it became our symbol of freedom
Dog Days
The "dog days of summer" are upon us. Sirius the "dog star" rises and sets in conjunction with the Sun. Since the "dog days" are usually hot it is a good time to go to the beach. Cancer is a water sign and invites you to enjoy the water, ocean, river, pond or pool.
July's Moon
July's full moon, on July 3, 2012, is sometimes called the Blessing Moon.
Stones
Cancer ends in July and Leo begins. Some stones associated with July are ruby, turquoise, jade and moonstone.
A Word About August
Don't forget August 1st is Lammas or Lughnasad. Lughnasad is a serious holiday, sometimes called first harvest. The Earth has given birth to many good foods. This is mostly a day of reflection and thanksgiving. So enjoy some good food with friends and be thankful.
